Ringcraft starts at 20.00 at Chapmanslade Village Hall throughout the year (with the exception of a gap through the summer – dates will be advised when we are closed). On three occasions through the year the Wednesday Ringcraft is replaced by a Match Night.
Through the lighter evenings at Chapmanslade (assuming it is dry!) we have access to a large area outside.
If you want to get the best put of your dog in the show ring, then ringcraft is a must. However, ringcraft training is not just for dogs to be shown, it can give the basics needed to any dog and help develop that bond between you and your dog.
Ringcraft will prepare both you and your dog for what you will find at a dog show. All dogs will be “gone over” one at a time by an experienced trainer to get them (and you) used to what will happen in the Show Ring.
Why come to ringcraft?
- You will develop together and build that special relationship with your dog
- Hopefully you will both enjoy the training and your dog will look forward to both ringcraft and showing
- We will train you how to correctly handle and present your dogs at a show, so both you and they show to their best ability
- The dog will be used to be “gone over” and will see the judge as no different
- You will know what to expect and also be more confident (this confidence does “go down the lead”)
- Your dog will be familiar in situations where there are many other dogs
So, how do we achieve this?
You will be trained/advised in how you can get the best out of your dog, this will include how to stand (stack) your dog for the judge, where to place the lead on the dogs neck, how to hold the lead when moving the dog, what is expected of you in the show ring and you will practice common movements (e.g. triangle, straight up-and-back) and have the common pitfalls pointed out to you!
There are usually a number of dogs at Ringcraft and this will also give your dog a similar experience to what they will find at a show.
On some nights Ringcraft training may be supplemented or even replaced by lectures on topics such as canine nutrition, grooming and first aid for dogs.
Teas, coffees and biscuits are supplied free of charge at Ringcraft.
